Interactive theatre has many definitions

What's our approach?

OUR MISSION

A Party at Anna's places The Audience at the center of its narrative. Cast members are trained to tease out your playful nature, along with your core values and sense of humor. As our Inter-Actors improvise with you, your essence becomes infused into the world of the play. For those drawn deep into the plot, A Party at Anna's invites you to step outside your comfort zone and surrender to the sensitivity that lives in all of us.

Run by a group of 20-somethings, A Party at Anna's is always seeking and sharing knowledge with other creatives curious about interactive theatre. We invite you to explore our previous productions, follow our trail of educational resources, and attend a workshop yourself!

A world of discovery awaits each of us as young artists—this leap of faith is waiting for you. Join us in this chaotic, vulnerable, technical, intellectual, reinvigorated investigation of what on earth live performance has become.

How we were born

The Beginning:

The Beginning:

The Beginning:

In summer of 2022, Artistic Director Amanda Meyers had an idea: a house party with actors in it.

With the help of Co-Writer Jack Miller, these two college students busted out a 50 minute playtest to see if this concept had legs.

The Beginning:

The Beginning:

Process: BUILDING THE FIRST FRANKENSTEIN

Week 1: The Workshop

Amanda connected with Joanna Harmon, an experienced interactive performer, writer, and director, to lead a 5 day workshop with the cast.

Throughout the 5 days, Joanna introduced basic interactive performance skills, how to rehearse with volunteers, and offered side coaching as Amanda & Jack introduced their text.

Week 2 & 3: The Rehearsal

After Joanna left town, and with Jack living in Chicago, Amanda was on her own to continue rehearsal. She met with the cast to refine the scene work and rehearse with volunteer audience participants. Once each scene was solidified, the team built transitions and clarified timing at Amanda's home.

Week 4: The Product!

USC's Acapella group, the SoCal Vocals, kindly allowed their fraternity house as a venue. The cast had one afternoon to re-block in their new space before they  launched into a 2 show day.

A fantastic full house of 40 USC students, family, and friends packed into the house. The 8pm show was electric- the movement from room to room, the drama, the games, the drinks...

The team was delighted to discover that this idea most certainly had legs to stand on.
